A few months ago, my friend Ed and I did a presentation for the local Drupal group. (The video can be seen at the bottom of this page.) I talked about web design, and Ed talked about setting up a module called ddblock. The whole point was to explain that Drupal is great, but you have to do some work to make your site stand out.

Really, the biggest problem with Drupal may be that it is TOO convenient. Sure the modules don’t always work, and some of them are hard to get working right when they do work – but the coding has mostly been done for you. Then there’s the themes.

Drupal has pages upon pages of themes. Some very good, many not so good. But when you find a good one, likely someone else has found it too. This means that your site is not original.

The best way to do this is both the art work and the modules:
